Workspaces
A PWS (Prestoplot WorkSpace file) is simply a set of models. When you save a workspace, all the graphs displayed are saved as models in the Workspace. They are used to save a multi-graph environment that you will want to use regularly with new, updated data or over a different time period.
A workspace is not sufficient to reload graphs ; the expected datasets have to be loaded before loading the Workspace, for the graph to be shown.
There is currently two supported formats to save workspaces :
- Binary PWS (.pwsb) - recommanded
- Legacy PWS (.pws) - deprecated
In a nutshell
- Purpose: Legacy formats for chart models and workspace storage.
- Contents:
.pmd: Chart model configurations..pws: Full workspace, including window states (maximized, minimized, etc.).
- Notes: Superseded by
.ppjand binary formats (.pmdb,.pwsb) for better performance.
Binary Workspaces (.pwsb)
Binary PWSB files are the recommanded way to store your workspaces. They are more efficient than legacy ones.
If you start using PrestoPlot, you should consider using them instead of legacy workspaces.
Legacy Workspaces (.pmd)
Legacy PWS files are the original way to store your workspaces. The informations were stored in an internal ASCII format that is no more recommended today.
