Complete Guide to Using the Mouse in PrestoPlot
PrestoPlot is designed for smooth and fast interaction, where the mouse plays a central role. This guide details all possible mouse actions, grouped by usage context (where you click) to make learning easier.
In the "Dataset" Window
The "Dataset" window is your starting point. This is where you select the data to visualize.
| Button | Action | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Left Click | Single click on one or more datasets | Selects the datasets for a future action. |
| Right Click | Click on a selection of datasets | Opens a context menu to: • Create a new chart (\New Graph). • Edit the attributes of the dataset (name, unit, etc.). • Access calculator shortcuts (e.g.: \delta\, \delta_t). |
In a Graph window
This is the main interaction space for visual analysis of your data.
| Button | Action | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Left Click | Click on a curve | Displays the coordinates (value and time) of the point closest to the cursor. |
| Hold left click + move on the graph | Allows you to move the graph (Pan). | |
| Hold left click + move on an axis | Allows you to move along the axis (Pan). | |
| Right Click | Click in an empty area of the chart | Cancels the last rectangle zoom operation. |
| Shift + Right click | Cancels all zooms and returns to the initial view. | |
| Middle Button | Hold middle click + draw a rectangle | Precisely zooms into the area defined by the rectangle. |
| Hold middle click + draw a line on an axis | Zooms into the selected interval on that axis. | |
| Hold middle click on the graduation of an axis | Allows very precise zooming, "snapping" from ticks to ticks. | |
| Scroll Wheel | Scroll the wheel | Zooms in or out progressively, centered on the cursor position, as in a mapping software. |
| Scroll the wheel on a specific axis (which appears in bold) | The zoom applies only to that axis. | |
| Shift + Scroll | Zoom in or out using a higher zoom factor. | |
| Control + Scroll | Zoom in or out ONLY on the X axis. |
On Chart Elements (Legend, Axes, Title)
These actions allow you to finely configure the appearance and properties of your chart.
| Context | Button | Action | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legend | Left Click | Click on a dataset name | Shows or hides symbols for each point of the curve. |
| Right Click | Click on a dataset name | Opens the curve configuration window (style, color, thickness, coloring, "pens" configuration for conditional coloring). | |
| Axes | Right Click | Click on an axis (X or Y) | Opens the axis configuration window (range, graduations, label, color, etc.). |
| Graph name | Right Click | Click on the chart tab | Allows renaming the chart. |
On Markers
Markers are analysis tools that allow you to point to precise values on your curves.
| Button | Action | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Left Click | Hold left click + move on the marker line (when the background turns blue) | Moves the marker to change the pointed value. The displayed values update dynamically. On a "point" marker, this moves the marker from measurement point to measurement point. |
| Hold left click + move on the marker text (when the background turns blue) | Repositions the marker label (text) without changing the pointed value. | |
| Shift + Hold left click + move on the marker line (when the background turns blue) | Repositions the marker (vertical or horizontal) constraining the position to data values only. | |
| Right Click | Click on a marker | Opens its attribute window to change style, color, value format, etc. |
